Cabo Verde Internet Exchange Point (IXP) implemented

Stakeholders involved in the design, implementation and operationalization of the Cabo Verde Internet Exchange Point (CVIXP) gathered on Friday, December 16, at the Data Center facilities, to sum up and share the strategic importance of the IXP for the accomplishment of Cabo Verde's Digital Agenda, and highlight the contribution of each institution involved.

The meeting was attended by the ISOC Africa representative and project partner, Ghislain Nkeramugaba, the current president of CVIXP, Hélio Varela, representing Unitel T+, and the CEO of Unitel T+, Inoweze Ferreira, the NOSi CEO, Carlos Tavares Pina, a representative of CV Telecom, as well as representatives of other private and public entities.

This is an initiative that will bring tremendous gains for the country. The IXP consists in the creation of a Traffic Exchange Point (PTT), which allows local Internet traffic in Cabo Verde to remain in the country, reducing latencies and Internet costs for consumers. It also allows content to be created at scale to sell to other countries, leveraging the cables that are being bundled across Cabo Verde.

Thus, by interconnecting, through an IXP, various Internet access service providers (ISPs) and content providers and the country's main institutions, several benefits will be achieved, including improved efficiency and even greater security in Internet access.
